'The Ebury Restaurant & Wine Bar has done it again!
Once again we have retained our entry in the new Michelin London Restaurants & Hotels Guide 2015 for the fourth year running.
'There are probably many reasons why The Ebury Wine Bar has been going strong for over 50 years but likeability and adaptability must surely be two. It has an endearing honesty that is largely down to the eagerness of the long-standing staff, and changing habits have meant that the focus is now more on the food than the wine; even the bar offers a decent snack menu. Go through to the dining room, with its trompe l'oeil, and you'll find a kitchen that brings imaginative international influences to some dishes but is equally happy doing the classics such as lamb cutlets or liver and bacon. The set menu includes a glass of champagne; there are separate dairy and gluten free menus; and the wine list is thoughtfully compiled and keenly priced.'
Why not book a table and come in and try some of our excellent dishes for yourselves.
The Ebury Restaurant & Wine Bar keeps up with the best!
Following The Ebury's inclusion in the Good Food Guide for the last few years, we have once again been included in the 2015 Guide which we feel is a great achievement.
'Steadfast commitment to enjoyment. With its trompe l'oeil wall illustrations and colourful floral displays, the Ebury continues to resist the rise of the minimalist contemporary makeover. The reassuring, old-school nature of the restaurant has charmed many generations (it opened in 1959), with the current custodian – Nigel Windridge – having been involved with the place since 1973. Tables are closely packed, the service team maintain maximum pampering and the kitchen shows its respect to classical traditions without seeming stuck in the past. Warm salad of rabbit confit with a tarragon cream, or seared scallops with aubergine caviar, might start a meal, before braised ox cheek with parsnip puree. There are brunch and bar options (a nifty burger, maybe), plus an entirely gluten-free menu. Desserts run to mango 'cannelloni' with passion fruit mousse and raspberry coulis. The wine list kicks off at £18.50 and has a decent selection by the glass.
Chef/s: Bernard Dumonteil. Open: all week L 12 to 3, D 6 to 10.15. closed: 24 Dec to 2 Jan. Meals: alc (main courses £15 to £34). Set L and D £21 (2 courses) to £27. Details: 70 seats. separate bar. Music.'
A mature crowd of well-to-do locals and businessmen love the 'French country garden' feel of this pretty dining room, where elaborate floral arrangements are framed by faded murals of leafy landscapes. This seasoned campaigner has hosted many a long lunch down the decades, and an excellent-value set menu (£25 with a glass of Moutard Champagne) complements the rustic mood with homely dishes such as calfs liver with wholegrain mustard sauce. Alternatively, dip into the carte for added culinary stimulation – perhaps smoked-duck pastrami with chicory, orange and date puree, Parmesan-crusted halibut with leek fondue and artichoke puree, or mango pannacotta with mint jelly. Fans of the grape are well served by the global wine list, while Sunday brunch and an all-day bar menu (burgers, omelettes, fishcake, and so on) complete the offer.

Good food, wine and company
In February, Nigel and Elizabeth held a special dinner for all local concierges. The evening, although small and select, was a great success. Dean Smith, Head Concierge of the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel in Lowndes Street SW1 had the following to say:
‘The Ebury invited all the local Concierges around for dinner in their lovely dining room. The evening was hosted by Nigel and Elizabeth Windridge who have ran this establishment for as long as I can remember and we simply could not have asked for better hosts. The Windridge’s have both lead such interesting lives so between them and us Concierge’s many amusing tales were told in a most convivial atmosphere which helped create a most pleasant evening made even more pleasant by the delightful food and wines we were treated to.
I started with a very tasty curried parsnip soup, followed by some divine braised ox cheeks and finished with a lovely bread and butter pudding served with a tangy rum and raisin crème anglaise (this is only another minor setback in my attempts to lose weight this year, which is going fine, thanks for asking). The only problem I had was choosing, each course had four choices and my fellow Concierge’s had some dishes that looked just as good as mine (the gravadlax and the chocolate marquis looked particularly tempting). Added to this was a Chilean red wine (Mr. Windridge’s wine knowledge is extensive to say the least) and a lovely bottle of Taylors 2007 port to finish off with the desserts, all this added up to a very rewarding evening for those of us that made the effort to attend (I would have thought there would have been more of us and those who missed out missed a treat).
This will be an easy restaurant to recommend to both staff and guests alike, price points are very reasonable (three courses with a glass of Prosecco is only £26.50) and even though the gastro-pub market is very competitive The Ebury is one I recommend you should try. Now as you might know I like to have Christmas organised a little in advance so I have already told my front of house team that this will be our venue for this year (I still haven’t bought any presents yet, that would just be silly).’

'To all at the Ebury Restaurant & Wine Bar,
The lunch for my friends on Saturday, 2 August 2014 was a great success the service impeccable, the food excellent and the cake was a triumph. The atmosphere of the restaurant is so comforting, everyone relaxed and really enjoyed themselves.
I thank the staff and the management for making it an event that my friends will not forget.
Some of the ones who live in London wonder why they have not been to the Ebury before, though a number of them have been with me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.'
Alan Boyle – August 2014
'Dear Trent, Bernard, Alan and all the team, thank you all so very much for taking so much trouble over the party on Saturday for Rosie's (60th) birthday.
The food was absolutely excellent and much commented on by all concerned. the cake was a treat. the drink all went down very well and so far as I was concerned maybe in too great a quantity. The service was second to none and Arthur was extremely good.
So Rosie absolutely loved the evening: it was a special family gathering, which was exactly what she wanted. I hope we did not disturb the other customers too much.
It was a really vintage, fantastic performance by the whole Ebury team and very much appreciated by all of us.
Thank you all'
Andrew Holmes – January 2014
'Thank you very much, we had such a wonderful evening.
Karen Wainwright, American Express – 28 November 2013
'Our deep thanks to all those involved in making my daughter's 18th birthday celebration such a success last evening. The staff were wonderfully attentive without being intrusive, the whole meal was a delight from start to finish and the extra touches just made her, and our, evening. And from one (me) who seldom enjoys chocolate, the cake was deliciously light and, even for me, out of this world. Thank you so much.'
Pat Whitaker – 6 January 2013
I just wanted to write to say how much we all enjoyed the evening on Saturday and to thank you and your staff for all the arrangements and hard work that was put into it. I know how much there is to do and what hard work it is – especially in the kitchen – but the end was worth it… The service was excellent and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Thank you also for the cake. It was very generous of you to give it to us and again, much appreciated. It was also delicious…
Sarah Downs, West Sussex
The atomosphere was relaxed; the service was wonderful, friendly, polite, and attentive but not 'in your face'. My meal could be summed up in one word: scrummy. Words cannot describe how delicious the food was.
Took a visitor from Sydney out for dinner tonight at the Ebury and what a fabulous place it is. The staff were excellent, the food was divine, the wine was superb, the ambience was incredible, the service was awesome and all for a price I seriously did not expect, under £100 for the 3 of us, bubbly included. I couldn't fault the Ebury on anything, seriously, if I could rate it higher I would. Thanks to everybody at Ebury that made our night a memorable success, we will definitely be back and have already recommended to others. This is a must try restaurant! Well done!!

I went here for dinner last night and had an extremely enjoyable meal. The service was fantastic and I found the staff to be extremely helpful and attentive. …I had an great experience as far as service was concerned. I particularly enjoyed my steak, which I have to say was one of the best I have ever had in London. Perfectly cooked.
I would recommend this cosy little restaurant to those seeking ambiance, excellent food and a wonderfully Christmasy feel. Their decorations are also superb.

The Ebury had a fantastic atmosphere, fresh and calm. I loved the detail on the wall of books with very funny references, the food was brillliant and very tasty. I had scallops to start, which were cooked to perfection, then halibut on a bed of spiced lentils, which was divine, healthy and filling. The service was excellent all round, from start to finish, prompt and freindly.
